Are you looking for a way to make a difference in the Duluth community? The Free Tax site is recruiting volunteers, and we could use your help. One hour of your time can put an average of $2,000 in the pocket of a low-income family.
The Tax Site offers free tax preparation to anyone earning up to $64,000 annually. We believe that poverty should never be a barrier to accessing tax refunds, credits, and quality tax consultations. Our program not only helps people access the refunds to which they are entitled but also enables many to access credits designed to lift them out of poverty such as the Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credit.

Volunteers do not need to have any particular experience, and not all volunteers need to work with numbers. We have roles for greeters, screeners, and tax preparers. We provide training for all roles, and you always have staff to rely on for questions and needs. Here is more information about each role:
Greeter: Don’t love numbers? There is so much work for you! We’ll ask you to greet participants, schedule appointments, organize documents.
Screener: Not ready to prepare taxes, but interested in working with tax documents? Enjoy talking with people? You can volunteer from home or in-person. We’ll teach you the basics of tax documents – what information matters, what doesn’t – and how to communicate everything to a Tax Preparer.
Tax Preparer: Have experience filing taxes? Or willing to learn? Tax Preparers work closely with clients (from home or in-person) to understand their situation, offer tax knowledge, and prepare taxes.
